Charity I. Oyedeji, M.D.
2027 Scientific Chair
Dr. Charity Oyedeji is a hematologist and researcher whose work explores the intersection of sickle cell disease and aging. Supported by grants and awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and leading aging research organizations, she is helping advance a new frontier in sickle cell disease care focused on long-term function, quality of life, and healthy aging.
Dr. Oyedeji currently leads two important studies designed to improve outcomes for adults living with sickle cell disease:
- The SILVR Study (Sickle Cell Disease Functional Assessment Validation and Refinement Study), which is validating a geriatric functional assessment tool for the early identification of functional impairment in adults with sickle cell disease.
- The SickleFit Study, an exercise and nutrition intervention designed to improve health, physical function, and overall well-being among older adults living with sickle cell disease.
Her research aims to develop personalized interventions that help individuals with sickle cell disease not only live longer but maintain health, independence, and quality of life throughout adulthood.
