Public health professionals contribute to sickle cell disease management through healthcare access. Efforts are made to improve healthcare access and utilization for sickle cell disease patients. 

Community health workers play a vital role in supporting sickle cell disease patients through transition support. In one case, community health workers have been developed to support emerging adults (16-25 years) with sickle cell disease during the vulnerable transition period from pediatric to adult care.

Myth: Workforce development programs for sickle cell disease are unnecessary because existing healthcare training is sufficient. 

Fact: Workforce development programs are crucial for addressing critical gaps in clinical practice related to sickle cell disease. The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research (FSCDR) offers specialized training programs that demonstrate the necessity of ongoing education.
