  • Areas of Research: Alopecia Areata, Inflammatory Skin Diseases, Epidermal differentiation and barrier formation appendage
  • The research in Dr. Cao’s laboratory focuses on the pathobiology of human skin and hair diseases using transgenic and knockout mice models with skin and hair abnormalities, as well as using these animal models to evaluate innovative treatment methods. My project focused on MPZL3, a protein that has been shown to be a critical regulator of the development and differentiation of several skin compartments such as the epidermis, hair follicle, and sebaceous gland.
  • Techniques gained: Genotyping PCR, DNA Extraction, Gel Electrophoresis, RNA Purification , RT-qPCR.
