Dr. Jenerette received a Ph.D. and MSN from the University of South Carolina and her BSN from Clemson University. She completed a certificate in nursing education at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a certified nurse educator. She also completed post-doctoral fellowships at both Yale University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Shortly after entering the nursing profession, Dr. Jenerette was exposed to the plight of adults with sickle cell disease (SCD). She now knows that much of the inequity in care for individuals with SCD is due to structural and social determinants of health, implicit and explicit bias, lack of knowledge, myths about Black people, and racism. Her research focuses on improving holistic health outcomes in sickle cell disease and for other vulnerable populations. In 2020, she was selected by Sickle Cell 101 as the National Sickle Cell Advocate of the Year.

Dr. Jenerette integrates her roles as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity, a researcher, an educator, and a servant leader.
